The Wonderful Way You Are: A Special Needs Picture Book - Hardback (Autographed)
Every child deserves to feel fully loved, fully seen, and fully known.
We all long to feel accepted and loved. Our special needs kids are no different. Growing up with a disability or chronic medical condition can create a unique set of challenges and may leave a child asking questions like:
- "Why am I the way I am?"
- "Is there anyone else out there like me?"
- "Where do I belong?"
- "Is it OK if I don't look, think, or move like those around me?"
Based on real children, the book's vivid illustrations and rhyming text help children, with a variety of medical conditions, see their story reflected on the page, because every child deserves to see their story told.
Unlike other books that focus on a single condition, this book highlights a variety of children with different complex needs.
Some of the conditions included:
- Cerebral Palsy
- Cystic Fibrosis
- Gorlin Syndrome
- Wheelchairs and Mobility Aids
- Prosthetic Limbs
- Limb Difference
- Down Syndrome
This is not a "woe is me" book, although it does address some of the challenges that can come along with having complex needs. It is a resource to remind kids of all abilities that we are wonderful, exactly the way we are.
Yes, I like every part of you.
I'll shout it near and far
and tell the world I love you
the wonderful way you are.
When children know they are wonderful, not in spite of their differences, but because of them, they are equipped to not just survive, but thrive.
Here's what parents are saying about the book:
"Every family and every classroom needs a copy of this book! It's such a great starting point to discuss differences in people and how we're all wonderful just the way we are! Highly recommend!" - Ashley S.
"My kids really liked this book. We were able to talk through the different pages and it also reminds them that no matter their differences they are loved." - Gail W.

A message from Author Sarah Elizabeth Brooks:
I'll be honest. I had ZERO idea what life was like in a special needs family until I found myself sitting in the waiting room of a neurosurgeon's office waiting to receive a diagnosis for my five-month-old my baby girl whose head was growing at an alarming rate.
It was terrifying. I had no idea what to expect or what our future would look like as a family.
But I knew one thing for certain: I would move heaven and earth for this little girl.
Four years later, and after two brain surgeries and thousands of hours of therapy and medical appointments, I prepared to send my little girl out of the safe bubble of our home and into the "real" world of public preschool.
But, I wanted to make sure that she knew how amazingly loved and wonderful she was even if things were more challenging for her than for her typical peers.
And so The Wonderful Way You Are was born. It's a love letter from a parent's heart to their child and it's my joy to share this story with you!
